Why I Choose Wooden Wicks & Soy Wax

I use wooden wicks because they burn cleanly, sound like a small fire, and remind us to slow down. Each wick comes from sustainably harvested, FSC-certified wood, chosen with care for the forests that give it.

My candles are made with natural soy wax. They are renewable, biodegradable, and free of toxins. It burns evenly, giving a steady light that’s kind to both the home and the earth.

For me, this choice is about respect for Aki (which is Anishinaabemowin for ‘the land’) that provides for us. When I make each candle, I think about where the materials come from and how they return. Sustainability isn’t a trend; it’s a responsibility. These small choices are my way of giving back to the land that keeps giving to us.

Rooted in Story, Spirit, and Craft

Every piece I make — from jewelry to apothecary — is created with intention and respect for Aki, the land that sustains us. I use locally sourced, sustainable materials, many grown and infused by my own hands, and beeswax from Mundy’s Bay Honey at our farmers market. Guided by teachings from medicine people, farmers, and plant lovers throughout my life, my work carries the old ways forward — one small, meaningful creation at a time.
